The Piqua Area Chamber of Commerce and the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce have joined together to help local business owners become more involved in the political process. LEAP is a variation of the Dayton Chamber's very successful LEAD (Legislative Education and Advocacy for Dayton) program.
When members sign up to participate in LEAP, they receive a handbook that explains the legislative process and provides tips on effectively communicating with elected officials. Each participant also received an "Elected official's sheet" that lists their specific Ohio Representatives, Senate and Congressional representatives with their address, phone and fax numbers so that the participant can quickly contact their legislator when important issues arise.
Chamber staff monitor legislative issues and then will inform LEAP participants when important issues are about to come up for a vote. An "Action Alert" will be faxed or emailed to the participants letting them know how an issue will impact their business and who they should contact to express their opinion.
The partnership between the Piqua and Dayton Chambers will help build a regional grassroots network and enable the organizations to better promote the business perspective to local, state and regional approach to grassroots advocacy, the business community will gain more success on legislative issues. |
